Information Technologies Essentials in Education

Short Description and Goals

Today, the curricula, the objectives of the subject matter, and the teaching approaches are important issues for the present and the future of the computing education. The special track on Information Technologies Essentials in Education expects to cover current and future trends on Information Technologies in Education and to give the opportunity to educators, researchers and practitioners with interests in educational aspects of all computing disciplines to present and discuss research results.

  • Education in Informatics for pupils of all ages
  • Students’ everyday lives and computing education
  • Teacher education in Informatics
  • Research on computing education in universities/colleges/schools
  • Computer tools in teaching and studying Informatics
  • Digital Games in elementary and secondary education
  • Mobile applications in education

Submission Guidelines

Authors should submit original, unpublished research papers. All papers must not simultaneously be submitted to another journal or conference.

​Papers and abstracts should be submitted through the main SEEDA-CECNSM 2020 submission website in PDF format. Authors should follow the SEEDA-CECNSM 2020 formatting as indicated here: https://hilab.di.ionio.gr/seeda2020/index.php/submissions/

By submitting a paper, authors implicitly agree that at least one of them will register to the SEEDA-CECNSM 2020 conference and present the paper. It is expected that at least one author will register for each accepted paper. Only papers that have been presented by their authors during the SEEDA-CECNSM 2020 conference will be published in the conference’s proceedings.

​Extended versions of accepted papers will be considered for publication in the following Special Issue of the Computation journal:

Special Session Organizers

Associate Prof. Sarandis Mitropoullos, Ionian University, Greece – smitropoulos@ionio.gr

Dr. Sarandis Mitropoulos is Associate Professor of MIS in the department of Regional Development of the school of Financial Sciences of the Ionian University. He has also been a research fellow in the department of Informatics of the University of Piraeus since 2004, contributing to lecturing, R&D projects and pregraduate and postgraduate projects. From 2002 to February 2018, he had been a Special Scientist in Informatics in a bank supervised by the Ministry of Finance of Greece. He holds a Ph.D. as an Electrical & Computer Engineer of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) in Integrated Distributed Management of Information Systems, Platforms and Networks. He holds a master’s degree in Business Administration for Executives from the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB) with specialization in synchronizing Business and Digital Strategies. He has worked as technical and project manager, as well as business development manager in projects of integrated solutions in the areas of information systems, system and network management, advanced telecommunications and telematic services and security. He has also taught 3 years at the National Technical University of Athens and at the Greek Productivity Centre. In 2005, he was elected as IEEE Senior Member.

Dr. Theodoros Karvounidis, University of Piraeus, Greece – tkarv@unipi.gr

Theodoros Karvounidis holds a Diploma in Electrical Engineering from the Democritus University of Thrace, Greece, an MBA from the University of Surrey, UK and a PhD from the Informatics Department of the University of Piraeus, Greece. From 1991 to 2004 he worked in the private sector, participating in European research programs and a large number of IT projects for the European and U.S. market. From 2004 until today he has been an IT teacher in Secondary Education. Since 2014 Theodoros is also a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Informatics of the University of Piraeus. He has published a plethora of articles in international scientific journals and Conference Proceedings, he has authored four books in collaboration with others, he is a reviewer of scientific papers and has participated in educational and pedagogical teams to develop educational software and integrated packages for the secondary education.

The 5th South-East Europe Design Automation, Computer Engineering, Computer Networks and Social Media Conference (SEEDA-CECNSM 2020) will be held on September 25-27, 2020, is technically co-sponsored by the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society (CIS), and will be organized by the Humanistic & Social Informatics Laboratory.
