What to expect

  • - The best time to visit a Greek island; the sea temperature is still warm in October and most days are sunny!
  • - An academically challenging program consisting of lectures, seminars and hands-on workshops within a highly interactive and vibrant setting contributing to the personal and academic development of each participant.
  • - Meeting fellow students from all over the world interested in a joint multi-perspective examination of the topics addressed.
  • - Participation in working groups according to the specific interest of each participant in order to work on a small-scale group project before, during and after the Summer School. During this innovative approach, all working groups will work on a fixed topic and present their progress during the last day of the event to fellow participants. This will enable all participants to exchange and share knowledge and ideas with other participants.
  • - Access to a learning platform with key readings for the school and beyond, but also additional facts, figures and slides provided.
  • - Exploring Zakynthos and surroundings, as well as a variety of social events (incl.  screenings, common lunches, reading circles and informal get-togethers).

  • Katerina Kabassi is currently an Associate Professor and Head the Department of Environment, Faculty of Environment, Ionian University (Greece). She received a first degree in Informatics (1999) and a D.Phil. (2003) from the Department of Informatics, University of Piraeus (Greece). She has authored more than 110 articles, which have been published in international/national journals, books and conferences. She has served as a member of Program Committees in more than 150 conferences and/or reviewer in more than 160 conferences. Additionally, she has served as reviewer in 27 international journals. Her current research interests are in the areas of Multi-Criteria Decision Making, Personalised Software, Environmental Informatics, Knowledge-based Software Engineering, Human Computer Interaction, Web-based Information Systems and Educational Software.

  • Dr. Phivos Mylonas was born in Athens in 1978. He received his Diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) in 2001, his Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Advanced Information Systems from the National & Kapodestrian University of Athens (UoA) in 2003 and earned his Ph.D. degree (with distinction) at the former University (NTUA) in 2008. He is currently a tenured Associate Professor by the Department of Informatics of the Ionian University, Greece and collaborates as a Senior Researcher with the Image, Video and Multimedia Laboratory, School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Department of Computer Science of the National Technical University of Athens, Greece.

The admission fees for the summer school include participation, coffee breaks and meals during sessions and all learning materials.

        • Full registration – 5 days / all sessions: 150

        • Student discount registration (-16,66%) – 5 days / all sessions: 125

        • Special(*) student discount registration (-33,33%) – 5 days / all sessions: 100

        • Single session pass: admittance to 1 day/session: 30

        • Double session pass: admittance to 2 days/sessions: 50
